[American Y.M.C.A. letterhead] Apr 24 1918 Dear Ma - : I rec’d your letters from [February] 19 to [March] 22 allways glad to hear from you I am very well. I am at the present stopping at Hotell De ice Berg in a barn loft. I have sore feet a little as I made a long hike I am in about the best part of France the land here is very good and I seen some modern farm machinary such as tractors Ect. The wheat looks fine the people are planting oats to the acc. of a drum not far away.

yes I see aeroplanes of all kinds every day I like to see them fight when I get the chance I will try and have some photos taken when we go back to rest again. if I dont rest for good. we had a fine day but have had cold rainy weather I wrote a letter in French the other day. The one who gets it will have a time dechiphring it. I can carry on a conversation I rec’d a letter from Aunt Carrie she is fine they are excited about the “oil Boom” you asked when will the war be over. not soon. The Germans dident get by with what they thought they would. I am sorry so many are sick I will

when I get payed again send an order for Mrs. Slagle for 15 more that ought to catch up also I think I owe L.L. Heart $6 I cant remember whether I played it or not I will send the $6 any way. I would like to see the picture at the nave did mine look good. Tell Mr Lervis Hello and to write a few lines no I dident get any Tobacco from Earl G but lots of packages like that get lost so easy I was amused at Mr Donahues letter in the paper. about the shots he got in the arm I have had 12 and 2 vacinations and never lost a days duty. also had a blood test which hurts worst of all such things are mere trifles when you find a man in little pieces one can get used to any thing they cant be war an no body get hurt.

I hope papa gets steady work. you might give Clyde my regrets for not paying him sooner but I must have a little pleasure when you dont know how long you will be able to have the same. I must quit as it is getting dark excuse poor writing I am in a hurry I dont expect to write for a couple of wks we have 9 more men in the Band one is an artist on the Piano he was drafted I played on a borrowed violin with him.
