Douglas [Arizona] 4/24/17 Dear Ma – : I recd your letter Mon. was glad to hear from you I am just fine just got through guard mount. I am enclosing a couple of Photos how do you like them. I may get raised to Corperal in the band in 1 mo I dont its just how they feel about it. I might stay in 3 years and then not get it. I dont think the band men will get any increase of wages even if the soldiers do. I hope you are all well. I think I will have my clothes sent to me as I want to wear them

[Page 2] at night when I go to town if you have a uniform on you can have no luck with the young ladies and one dosent want to bum with soldiers all time you can only go with Mexicans in uniform One of the band boys made a hit with a rich girl and married her. I have not heard from langstons horn yet you see nobody just knows where the Battalion went the letter will follow Of Course but it will take time I shant worry about as I have other things to think about. I read in the paper where the 2nd detachment

[Page 3] of enginers reached [England] the paper said the day before they were getting ready to leave we have had a funeral nearly every day. the recruits catch cold and if their lungs are not strong it goes to Pneumonia which is always fatal in this climate we had hot Cakes and syrup this morning. I will settle my acct with S S Hart next pay day. It wont take me so very long to get settled up as I am not out much expence Well I must quit and go to dinner with love Walter how did you like the border book I sent. I dont think Pearl will come up she is afraid it [written vertically in margin] wouldent look right.
