December 28 - 17 Well Dad Thot I Write a few lines we are haveing a snow storm to-day have about 3 in on the ground the weather is pretty cold we had rehearsal this morning I dident play had my left lower wisdom tooth pulled day before yesterday. shure hurt to have a pefectly good tooth extracted the reason I had it pulled was because it never grew up as high as the rest and the gum had a tendency to be sore all time so the dentist said it was best the tooth should come out. we had turkey xmas was fairly good we are feeding a little slim nowdays have ben hikeing nearly every day the last 2 wks. I got the socks Tobaco Ect. wrote Aunt Mattie a letter thanking her for the same

I havent recieved any very late letters from home the last I got were 1 ½ month old. I guess the mails are all balled up. I have seen no presents given by the [Red Cross] I understand they will furnish material to make garments then send them to the troops. To-day is pay day guess I will go on pass to a big town for a day or two I seen a violin makers Shop he ships them to U.S. hes had some pretty good ones I am going to get me 2 clarinets Buffet Bohem System in Paris before I come back (if I do) I play Albert System now they are out of date can get them 50% cheaper here than in U.S. Is M.A. Lewis in [Bonner Springs]? I suppose winter has Kansas in its grip now I will close as it is noon I am Your Loving Son Walter In Haste [censor signature]
