155 Armour St [Bonner Springs, KS] Nov. 6, 1918 My Dear Walter, Thought Id get a letter yesterday but no luck. saw Miss Brown the other day she had gotten your letter said there was quite a bit of freude in it asked her if there were many mistakes she said only one. a word misspeled she seemed pleased to get the letter as it was a latter date than mine it was news to me. The ban is still on everything the influenza is better, altho quite a few deaths have occured here I think school will begin next wk also the churches

will reopen also pictue show Everything has been closed for a mo. Yesterday was Election I voted for Capper for Congressman Henry Allen for Gov. You knew he (Allen) is in France. hope he will be Elected Papa got off Early to vote there is no Excitement about the Election here We are all well have not had the “Flu.” so far hope we wont get it Grandma has a bad cold Aunt Mattie was there 2 or 3 wks but left yesterday she might have staid another wk but I guess she wants a job in the City We have had a warn spell of weather today looks like rain We are going to walk

[page 2] Perhaps when this reaches you Germany will have surrendered unconditionaly which she must do) as all her allies have surrendered but the papers say that it will take 2 yrs to de-mobilize the army but perhaps your will get to come home [ms illegible 1 word] the first as you went first but as Paris has so much attractions for you, you might not care to return to the U.S. your 3 yrs wont be up for another yr 8 ½ I sure will be glad when it is all over for I have spent many anxious hours [upside down top margin] Regards to I ki of the picture

just now there are rumors down town that quite a few [Bonner Springs] boys were wounded and that Ray Washburn was Killed the names all wer cut out of the letter so it was mere guess the causalty list is not kept up to date we are all very anxious to here I knew you have been in very fierce fighting for I see where the Huns are afraid of the 1st Div. the girls have 2 sacks of walnuts they went out in the car with klarinets. they are not hulled. we get a little more sugar now so I can make candy. Write when you can with lots of Love from us all I am Your Loving Mamma Lizzette Shaw
