Verdun France [December] 25 [1918] My Very Dear Mrs Rumbold Many thanks for the good wishes received and I can tell you from the bottom of my heart it was a sad Christmas without our beloved Col. this I can truthfully say is the Sentiments of all the old Officers and I think without a doubt the thoughts of all the men who know him. We have been housed again drawing 900 head after giving up all but 142 in the Regiment

I had a very good friend Major Daveaux who is well known in Polo Circles and he let the Regiment pick out of some 2000 head. he is in charge of the Remont Station at Verdun and most capable of [ms illegible: 1 wd] same. This time of the year takes me back to just one year ago at Medium Park in the best company of all and I cannot
