HEADQUARTERS 35TH DIVISION U.S. ARMY OFFICE THE DIVISION VETERINARIAN AMERICAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES FRANCE, 29th October 1918. Colonel F. M. Rumbold Base Hospital 11, American E. F. My Dear Colonel: I met Major Pimm a few days ago and the Major gave me your address so I though that I would drop you a little line, thinking possibly that your hours in the hospital were monotonous and that you would be glad to have a line from one of your boys. I trust that you are gradually improving and will soon be out with us again. I was out to the regiment the other day and I feel that I can see a certain little spirit creeping up in the old timers that is due to someones absence. I am getting along very nicely but have been working very hard and regular. However, I was awarded the first of the month by a promotion to a Majority. The old regiment received many favorable compliments during our recent drive and they seem to have demonstrated that without a doubt that they have been taught something about modern warfare and I think that their achievements in that action were such that any man might proud to say that he was the builder of the organization. I heard Mrs. Rumbold was over here and I trust she is with you, if so, please extend to her my very kindest regards. Trusting that you may see fit in your leisure moments to drop me a line and that you may soon be back in the collar again, I beg to be, Most Respectfully Yours, Ora P Davis Major Ora P. Davis, V.C. Division Veterinarian, 35th Division, American Expeditionary Forces.
