COPY UNITED STATES DISCIPLINARY BARRACKS Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. [December] 15, 1922. From: N.F. McClure, Colonel, Signal Corps, To: The Adjutant General of the Army, Washington D.C. Subject: Citation for Colonel Frank M. Rumbold, F.A.R.C. (Addl.G.S.C.) 1. I have been informed that the War Department is desirous of obtaining recommendations concerning temporary officers who served during the World War with a view to granting them citations in cases where their services have merited such an honor. 2. I was associated with Colonel Frank M. Rumbold, F.A.R.C., Addl. G.S.C., for a period of three weeks in the Vosges Mountains. During this time I was in line with my Brigade (69th Inf. Brig.). Colonel Rumbold, who commanded the 128th Field Artillery, was in line in support of my brigade at the same time. Although he was not directly under my command, I was supposed to call upon him whenever I needed his assistance. He always cooperated most vigorously with me and with the artillery and sector commanders of the adjoining sectors. 3. I take pleasure in recommending him for a D.S.M. in the following citations: Colonel Frank M. Rumbold, 128th Field Artillery, not only commanded his own regiment, but had, as a part of his command, several batteries of French Artillery. At all times he was efficient in his work and loyally cooperated with his Division Commander and with the commander of the French Artillery in his sector. He likewise cooperated with the commander of the 69th Infantry Brigade, occupying the same sector. He was continually wide awake and on the job and exhibited unusual ability. His position was one of great responsibility and, in my opinion, his services were exceptionally meritorious. (Signed) N.F.McClure N.F.McClure.
