St. Louis, [Missouri] [February] 28, 1919 Dear Friend [George], Received your most welcome letter and was sure glad to hear from you. I must say you sure are a lucky guy to get over to Gay Paree and I sure wish that I could have made the trip with you. But I guess you are somewhat dissappointed in not being able to get your share of the Huns. Well [George] the town is begining to enlarge again, almost every day there is somebody I know returning from some branch of service, but very few of

the members of the Marine Corps are being discharged although there are a few whom I know that have been. One of my pals whom you met down on the Inland with me, Ben Schuler, has received his discharge in January. He was able to do that thru the fact that his brother made the supreme sacrifice in the fighting in the Argonne Forests. Ben was sure in tough luck while at Quantico. He was supposed to have sailed for France I think about the same time or a little later than you but five hours before they were supposed to board the ship they were told to hold off until further notice. A couple weeks later the armistice was signed and old Ben was S.O.S. But one of my pals Ray Knight got across and is over in Germany now pretty lucky for him. Perhaps you have met him over there if you remember him. If you do give him my regards By the way [George] you asked me for my cousin
