[American Y.M.C.A letterhead] June 20th 1919. St. Nazaire Dear Sister! As per your letter of the 2nd ult. you still seem to be having trouble with what little mail I send. You are not alone in that way, every one in the Battalion has some sort of a kick to register to that effect. Some send letters that never reach their destination, others are short much mail they know should reach them, but in my case I do not know as we have not been keeping the proper check on them. Well their is nothing to be done about, we are out of luck. You seem to think I was joking you about the

[page 2] [American Y.M.C.A letterhead] when I return. I dont know whether I have ever explained how I came to go to St. Malo instead of Paris. At the time I was given the leave a rumor was going that we were to leave here on June 1st and we decided to take the trip rather than miss out on any. I would very much like to have seen Paris and may do so as yet, but I do not regret having taken the St. Malo trip. According to your letter you seem to be doing a lot of entertaining these days. I dont know whether to feel joyous in having a positition waiting for me or the opposite. You know, one year in the service makes quite a change in one

Units of the army of occupation are being sent home which means well for all stationed here The Rigndam left here for the States last night with Cavalry - Signal Corps men - French wives and Am. nurses. Up to date their has been 95,000 men sent home and the record for May is to be passed or broken by at least 20,000. I still hold to [August] 1st as being the day when I will be home. We are going to have a little ice cream feast as soon as the U. makes delivery. Yes and we had a chicken dinner two days ago. I am afraid if I mention more you will think we are being fed a la Hotel Jefferson. How are you all? Every one here is feeling ok.[written in margin] AND BOTTLED BEER
