[JEWISH WELFARE BOARD letterhead] Friday July 4th 1919 St. Nazaire France Dear Sister! Just finished a dinner consisting of roast chicken sweet corn - tomatoes - beans and potatoes and am about to bust. The morning has passed away quitely, contrary to what we all expected. Things may liven up a bit this afternoon and evening after the men are given liberty. Their is to be a big celebration in Paris today, fireworks wine and champagne will make it a 4th never to be forgotten. We had a company picture made this morning and expect to have some to send home next week May be a sour looking lot of Marines as the company just finished doing the second half

Getting up at 4 in the morning is no fun, yet not one half as bad as being pulled out at midnight. I am going out this afternoon to see what I can do toward getting Bill Daues an apron for his Blanche. I wonder what George and Dad think of me in not sending a souvenir of some sort from over here. Cannot you suggest something? A pipe or cigar holder, or jewellery strikes me as being to much of an every day affair. I am enclosing a clipping out of yesterdays New York Herald
