[American Y.M.C.A. letterhead] June 27 1919 St. Nazaire France. Dear Mother! This morning mail call brought me a few letters for a change, one each from Elsie - Kate, and Bill Daues. Daues wants an apron similar to the ones I sent Elsie and Kate. I have forgotten just exactly how they were made but will try and match them. E. and K. both write all being well at home. The same applies to us here at St. Nazaire one of our men left us on Monday for the States. He lives in St. Louis. I gave him a note of introduction to

He can tell more than I am permitted to write - He has gone home on a dependency claim. He may not reach St. Louis for a month as Marines are not being discharged as rapidly as men of any other branch of the service Their is nothing new to write and it keep me thinking to try and get more than a two, page letter back to the States. I might mention that we had roast chicken three times for dinner last week

We have had mutton three times this week already, and I must say at surely was a fine sample of a Rocky Mountain Goat. I am glad you were able to find me on some of the cards I sent. Some are not very good. Kate writes that she noticed an item in the paper reading that St. Nazaire was to close on June 16th and Elsie writes [August] 20th. So there you are, know body knows a thing, I am afraid I will have to change my favorite date for coming home
