[American Y.M.C.A. letterhead] Hampton Roads [Virginia] [August] 8th Dear Father, Mother and Sisters! This is the one letter I have been waiting to write to you all for the past nine months. Our Regiment arrived here this morning at 1130 A.M. on the U.S.S. Siboney which left Brest at 11 A.M. a week ago (July 31st) making our trip an eight day. The trip untill the time of landing was un-eventful. We had very good weather, a very calm sea, and trouble of no kind whatever. Hampton Roads is some eight miles east of Norfolk [Virginia] which can easily be found on the map being on a direct line east of St. Louis You have no idea what kind of a thrill comes over one while steaming up the harbor of Hampton Roads. It was a grand and glorious feeling and can be surpassed by none but the one I expect to have when pulling into

[page 2] [American Y.M.C.A. letterhead] Union Station or walking up Hanover Ave into the front yard. It is said that we are to be discharged on Tuesday the 12th or Wednesday the 13th. I will write a few more letters before leaving here and give you more definite news I am in the best of condition and hope all is what it should be at home. I think you will have a chance to send me at least one letter so I will give you my present address. Pvt. [George] H. Rehn Co. G. 13th Regt. U.S.M.C.
