[American Y.M.C.A. letterhead] July 8th 1919 St. Nazaire. France Dear Dad! Thought it about time to write you a few lines. Met Ralph Ritchey on 4th July and again had a very good time together. He is on detatched duty his outfit having gone home some few weeks ago. He is stationed at Campe Dodge in the Infirmary. Camp Dodge is about three miles from here and can be reached by way of train or truck. He is somewhat put out in not being able to go back to the States with his organization. As to our coming home soon it is still a mystery. If I can figure dope to any extent my dope is that this will be the last letter I will send you personally from St. Nazaire. I believe we we are going to pull out before [August] 1st. Under seperate cover

[page 2] [American Y.M.C.A. letterhead] I am sending you the latest Guard Gazette which has some very interesting news regarding our get-a-way. I am sending you a German Cavalry sword (Privates) a German saw tooth bayonet and a German plain bayonet which came from the Argonne. I thought they would make you some dandy souvenirs or remembrance of the World war. I am also sending George P. a saw tooth bayonet which I hope he will appreciate I hope they reach home as some of the men are complaining of never receiving acknowledgment of receiving souvenirs they have sent home. I am still about the same in the way of health and hope I will be lucky enough to get back feeling just as I am today. How does the law act. I suppose every body will become rich and divorces, murders, robberies and
