Description | Photographs taken by Dr. Arthur Proetz of Washington University at Base Hospital 21 in France. Washington University's base hospital was one of the first to be mobilized for war. They were stationed in Rouen, France where they served nearly 60,000 patients. Dr. Arthur Proetz was born in St. Louis in 1888, and died in St. Louis in 1966. He graduated from Washington University in 1910 and the Washington University Medical School in 1912. After the war he served as Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology at the Washington University School of Medicine until 1954. |
