[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] [September] 24 – 1918 10:15 P.M. My Darling Girlie : - as you will note it getting late for one who has to get up at 6 A.M. but Ijust Must write you some of the important things tonight about the Apt. I rented this afternoon. It is in Highland Park a suburb of [Des Moines] or rather far out as it is in the Corporation. Now as to the Flat – It is on the ground floor. Has living room, dining room, bed room, Kitchenette and bath room. Rented it for month of [October] if you stay longer and do not like it and want to move you can. The bed is a double bed in bedroom. Then there is a Davenport which makes up into a bed in the living room. The living room is rather large. Bedroom has small Closet (Curtained),

also small dresser in it Bath room good size. It is heated and folks say well heated. That is the present tenants. It is a Medical officer who is ordered away. The owner does not furnish towels, bed linen or table linen. Silver is furnished also bedding. Has gas stove in Kitchenette also refrigerator Has stationary stand or sink in K. Hot & Cold water and Electric lights. Is a New, two story ap’t house. Four apts on first floor and Ipresume same above. So Ido not believe that you to worry about B.B. If you have room you might put in Extra Comfort, but as they are in the furnishing if you do not have enough can ask for more. These flats are occupied by Army officers. Is near good school for Marian. (About two blocks) Several of the medical officers here are in same block at present we can

Went out and looked at these rooms last night but did not agree to take until this afternoon. It is on this side of [Des Moines] Street Cars run directly into business and shopping center as well as Movies. Grocery stores in block also several restaurants near. which our land lord says are respectable. Is said to be a good neighborhood. Is no Piano in Ap’t. I think that I have answered your questions. Will write you again tomorrow. Remember you can have sheets that I have. Saw Mrs. Irish before I rented this Ap’t and she thought it O.K. will tell you about it in my next. Did not get any supper

tonight as Igot back here too late answered several of your questions in a previous letter. Paid 45.00 for this flat and it does not include the Gas and lights. Can get a good many things you Eat at J. M’s here Wish you would put in Da Costa’s Surgery down in Bookcase downstairs. Will sure be at station to meet you Saturday evening. If you need extra money you have the Check book. I will get my first months pay next week. It will not be for quite a month this time. There will be several Children in the neighborhood of Apts and I noticed some kind of a library. Is also a Movie near. I will have 4 or 5 blocks to walk to Interurban Think when things get straighened out that we can go out and stay all night. There are several Churches in Highland Park. Must stop now and go to bed. Just lots of love. Iwrote you about the Insurance on house and Contents and getting permits also names of those carrying Ins. again much love. Devotedly Everett
