[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] [September] 21st 1918. 5 P.M. My Darling Girl : - Only One more week and I hope to see My Most loved ones. am writing while waiting for the call of the supper bell. On Saturday they usually have supper a little Earlier as some of the Men that Control things here want to get off Early. While Ithink of it Iwant you to bring me the Copy of my last Income tax return which is the Top Chiffonier drawer. Imight not got back to make this out there and would want this in Making out this years return. Lt Neumann here has just put his boy in school in 8th grade A. and says tuition is free. also books furnished free so that much is accomplished. says they have to furnish Towels, bed linen and table linen only no silver. What do you think? You know Iwrote that Iwent to town yesterday with Lt. Parish and last night Maj. King and

Capt. Dewees took his car and drove in and Maj. King left the Car back of his apartments there locked and some broke or picked the lock and stole the Car. Maj. King has been at the head of the Depot Brigade but has just been promoted to Camp Surgeon which that he is tomade a Lt. Col. and Capt. Dewees will be made a Major and succeed to his place. It looks good for us to get a better place or one more to my liking as I have been working under Capt. Desees and he know what I want to do. From your letter today Itake it that Marian is either going to Kill the Cats or find someone to take them and is coming with you so Iam going to try and Make arrangements accordingly. am returning the tax statements as you did not include lot 67 in Gr. H. addition this must be paid also. It costs something for the privilege of living these days. If you have time attend to getting this if not leave it until later. you may as well pay it or then if you go there by giving them Checks on 1st Nat’l my account. If you do be sure

Went down to the City tonight and got back at 9:30 Think that you will enjoy being there as it is quite a City and stores are attractive. I do not enjoy it as I have to keep My right arm in action all of the time. If I have anything to carry it is necessary to carry in left hand as my right is reserved for the one purpose. Nearly everyone is gone from this place tonight. Think that I will go to [Des Moines] tomorrow and investigate the room question. By the way I heard a singer and Reader here, at the YMCA near here Friday night. The one was hardly up to Mrs Goatz type the other not equal to
