[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] 7 45 P.M. [October] 26 – 1918 MyDarling Wife : - Your two good letter Came today. One this morning and one this afternoon. It has rained all day long and is still at it. You should try to get around here now. as you Know we have no sidewalks and it is much like the middle of the street on grand ave in front of [MS illegible: 1 word]. This after a big rain. It is this way only more so everywhere. If it is this way now what will it be after a big rain. Iam invited to some kind of an entertainment in Des Moines Monday might Accepted because Ihad no Excuse not to. Maj DeWeese Called me up over telephone and I knew that he knew I had no Excuse. Do not know who else is to go Except Maj DeWeese Will tell you all about it

when Iknow more. Have not seen Maj DeWeese since to talk tohim. It is raising hard now. nice outlook for tomorrow. We had a pretty busy day today, but if you were here would spend tomorrow with you as we do not have work there. Am going to try and get my Coat Clean tomorrow, as Ican not get my new one for ten days. Think that you would like my overcoat. Got the Presses and found several interesting things in them. Harry Blairs letter was interesting. Papers look pretty good tonight, but they are doing some fighting over there. The Germans are not ready to give it up yet, hope that the weather will remain so that the Allies can pound her for a few weeks yet. Did you read Pattullo’s article in this weeks [Saturday] evening Post?

[Page 2] 10 30 A.M. [October] 27 – 1918 Well my dear it rained all night and it is still at is this Morning. This is real life. Iam Certainly glad that you do not have it to live. Doing your own work at home is bliss in Comparison. This place still smells of the disinfection and there is something in it that has irritated My nose and head until it is very unpleasant. There is no place to go so we put up with it. But so long as the Huns resist we will have to stand it whether we like it or not. Ihave the headache this A.M. as you can see from the above. so will refrain from saying more. The quarantine is off in [Des Moines] tomorrow and the boys Can go in town and out of Camp. the first time in four weeks. They are nearly wild to go. Theatres are to be
