[Y.M.C.A letterhead] 7 P.M. [October] 24 – 1918. MyDarling Wife : - Your letter of Monday Came today and was mighty glad to get it. We have had housecleaning too, but it isn’t much like yours. Every thing smells lofely. They sprayed the walls andfloors with some dope Containing Coal oil for one thing then fumigated with Sulphur. Itook my blankets & Comfoots out and beat them. Let them hang on the line and air, am going to put on a Clean pillow slip soon. How often do you Change them? Is once in 8 wks too often? Most of the men [written upside down in top margin] What did Tyd’ do about buying the house?

Iknew the history of the Overcoat man before I left. this was the reason he ceased to be in the Army. Am glad to hear that Dr. G. has been assigned to duty in the Army, now let Dr. B. get busy too. Dr. Webster will get in if he can. What about Dr. Baker? Will be glad when it is all over, but am mighty glad that Iam in and that Idid not put it off any longer than Idid. The Doctors are Certainly decided in their views of the M.D. who is eligible and is not in it. War news looks good but am anxious

There are to be a number of changes as soon as the Squad huts are Completed. We Continue to have a good Mess at our barracks but the silver is the same. Had Fried Chicken yesterday for dinner. Ido not think Ihave gained any in weight since you were here, but am well Have not been to [Des Moines] since you left. Quarantine is to be raised there next Monday. Am glad that I am not on duty now at Tent City, but could do it if I had it to do. Am going to Keep one of the Snap Shots. Am returning the other. Just lots of love, Devotedly Everett
