[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] 7 30 P.M. [October] 23 – 1918 MyDarling wife : - Your much looked for, and wished for, letter Came today, the one written Sunday. Also another from Dr. West. He thinks he was sick with Influenza. Does not think he will make the Army life time work, but Expects to stay by it until peace is declared. This has been a nice day, but not a pleasant one for me as I awakened with a sick headache this morning. It was hard for me to work this forenoon, but got along very well this afternoon. We had quite a lot of odorous Negroes to Examine again today, or rather another lot.

We have a nice perfume in our Barracks tonight as the sanitary Corps were there today getting after the BB’s. Did not get through either, so the agony is prolonged. It does not look to me like you are getting much rest, and for the life of me Ican not see the use of your living that way. Would have Enjoyed your Country drive last Sunday. Ithink Mrs. Flower is about right in reference to M.D.’s entering Army. Dr. Parish is in and he has as much Diabetes as Dr. W. Difference is in desire to get into service. You might take your dinners out if you fail to get a girl and get some one to clean house every week for

[Page 2] you. This would lessen your housework Materially. Iunderstand the Medical and Surgical personnel of the 19th Division is to be Chosen within the next few days. Do not believe it will include me, but some of the men are sure to go from here. Ithink Sathe and Parke will be among them. Do not believe Major DeWeese is to go with his Division and if not Iwant to stay here. This of course is not for Common Conversation. Imean this last statement. teeth today and had to visit one of the Dentists. The work was not extensive. Am over at Officers room of the YMCA writing. This place adds much to the Comfort of a lot of us here. Some one Keeps the victrola going most of the time or some one plays the Piano so we have some music or recitations to break the monotomy. Wish that Imight see you tonight andmy other Chick too. Kiss her for me will write to her in a day or two. Give my love to the different members of the family. Am glad that you find home a Comfortable place to be. Iwish Imight be there also but fate has decreed otherwise With just lots of love. Devotedly. Everett.
