[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] 7 00 P.M. [October] 18 – 1918 My Darling wife : - No word from you yet and here it is Friday night and you left Monday. Ilooked for a letter yesterday andwhen none Came today thought of telegraphing you but decided towait another day. Why is it no letter has Come? It is real Cool here today and has been Cloudy, but some think it smoke from the forest fires. Ido not Know which it is, but Know the fire feels good. Have not purchased an overcoat yet, but this weather makes one think of it. Iam holding off to see what is going to happen in the war. Ido not want tobuy an Army

overcoat, if this war is going to End this year. Would prefer some other Kind of overcoat at home. But if it gets much Cold and Ihave to be out will not delay. Ialso need another suit if Iam going tobe in the service long as this one is getting very dirty. The Camp is still in quarantine, but there are very few if any new Cases of Influenza. Have not been in town since you left and am not likely to go soon. Am working in one of the Infirmaries now. The one next to where our quarters are located. The building where Iwent to get My Mail the day you were here. The Y.M.C.A. is still Closed as are all the other halls. Absolutely nothing doing in Camp

[Page 2] in the way of any entertainment or amusement Movies are all Closed also. The stores on the hill are still Closed. We read the papers daily which is all the diversion we get. The Medical Men of the Depot Brigade stick pretty Close to Camp. I am O.D. Sunday that is from Sunday Noon to Monday noon. Am very glad that it is not at the Base Hospital. It is some job up there when there is much sickness, I think that we will soon have some work at the Mustering station again unless there are some new developments to keep the quarantine on, Am anxious to hear from you and how you found things at home

The war news Continues to look Mighty good. Hope that Carthage goes over the top in the Liberty loan. If Billie should make any division on the money he has collected, would suggest that you get Robert Briggs to loan it for you in Texas. Ithink I failed tomention this to you. He Can do it with very little trouble tohim. Hope that everything was in good shape when you got home. know that Nira was glad tosee you. Imiss you both very much, but if you are more Content there Ishould not Complain. Have not had any symptoms of Influenza thus far, but had a headache yesterday am alright today. This was the first headache in several weeks for Me. Will stop for this time as Ihaven’t any news. Just lots of love Devotedly, Everett.
