[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] 7 30 P.M. [October] 16th 1918 MyDarling wife : - No letter from you today, though Iguess it was not due. Seems longer since you left. Well what do you think that Ihave been doing the past two days? Soliciting for the Liberty Bond sale. Have been from one end of the Camp to the other. Have to go to [Des Moines] tomorrow A.M. Have only the Medical officers of the Depot B. to see, also Dentists of Infirmary No.1. about 85 in all. Have seen most of them. One man said that he thought Iwould make a good life Ins. Agt. Isold him a bond. Have had very few rejections. It takes some walking though Will finish this in A.M. and will then be ready for some other work. It doesn’t make much

difference what. as Iam in the Army now. It all goes. This is a wonderful night here, as balmy as can be. Am sitting on My Cot. Have off my Coat and have the window open and am as Comfortable as if it were in June. Today has been another dusty day as we have had a strong wind. The Influenza seems to have subsided, but there are still many of the [MS illegible: 1 word] remaining. some relapses Etc. Mrs Parke is still quite sick and Lt Sathie is not able to work. Quarantine is still on, and have heard nothing More about its being raised. Am anxious to get a letter form you telling of your trip andhow you found things. Capt. Dale says that he turns his Check over to his wife every Month and that she pays all bills including Insurance and is able to put $50.00 in savings account. How does that sound? He has same

[Page 2] size family that Ihave only his daughter is grown and they live in Des Moines. He is the Capt who has the daughter who sings. Iwill be satisfied if we Can make it pay our Expenses. Iam sure we can not including My taxes. The war news looks good enough to make us think it is not going to last always. Ithink germany Must be getting in a pretty bad state. At least it looks so. perhaps Pershing was right. Dont forget to look and see if the Sat. Ev. Post has that story “Dere Mable”. Love letters of a Rookie get Miss House to look in Posts at office. Will stop for this time as Ihaven’t much to write. Just lots of love. Devotedly Everett
