[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] [October] 11th 1918. My Dearest One : - Your letter of Oct. 9th was here last evening when I got in. seems strange that we are only ten miles apart and yet have to resort to letter writing. you not being permitted to Come to see me nor I to go and see you. Hope it wont last long. We did not have quite as many admissions yesterday. but over 500 when I left last night. A good Many are returning to their Barracks now who were first admitted. Glad to hear that you are better of the pain in Chest. was anxious to hear. You did not Mention the rent Did you give Mr. Walker Check? If so for full Month. If not you should tell him you Expect

He has his new insignia now and I think is very proud of it. Have had no other letters since Isaw you. Note that all Movies are Closed. Too bad for you, but perhaps you can find something else. Isee that you are beginning to get acquainted. You May like it better now. Marian Can not enter school Isee without being vaccinated. You said six miles to [Fort Dodge] It is 60 I think or something like that. am going to try and get in again in a day or two, but will depend altogether on number being admitted tohospital as Ican not get away from hospital until late if they are busy

12 05 P.M. 10-11-18 Have not been rushed this Morning, but we have had nearly as Many admissions as we hadyesterday. Had towalk most of the way out this Morning through the rain. Will be glad when the whole thing is a recollection only. It is Certainly not to my liking, but Iam glad Icame. Think that Iwill always feel better for having done so. Would not like to be looked upon, as is the usual thing, with those who have not entered the service (that is the Doctors) Wonder why Dr. E.J.B. puts ad in Press that he will rent residence? The War news Continues good, but Iam very much

afraid of peace moves. All Germany Can hope for is in this. and Iremember what Bernhardi said in his book. Do not have much to write these days, as Isee very little, and you read the papers. Do not even see the Medical Mess down at our quarters, as Iam late getting in at night and only take breakfast there. Drs. Neuman and Sathe are both away from Camp with troops. Hope that the quarantine is raised so that you Can see this end of the Camp before you return home. It is really the big end of it. This B. Hos. is a big thing in itself. The Medical Men under whose direction Iam working here are very nice to Me. Guess they respect my gray hair. With just lots of love. Devotedly Everett
