[American Y. M. C. A. letterhead] 8:45 A.M. [November] 30th 1918. My Darling Wife:- While Iam waiting for the mill to start grinding will begin my letter to you. It is a beautiful morning but right cold out snow has not melted much so far. Icicles are still plentiful. I mailed you the picture yesterday as it seems that we are not going to to get names on. Will tell you these when I get home, am going to enclose wonderful write up of the Anna Case recital last night. It is a shame not to give a better notice than this for a recital like she gave, she is a real artist, Mme Stanley is not in her class. She has all

the other woman has and much more. Is about your height, a bit more chesty; possibly a little more [MS Illegible: 1 word]. Is handsome, some might say beautiful. Has a splendid stage presence. Seems to be perfectly at ease. Has a good voice with all this. Does not merely call the words, but puts her soul into it. She gave the entire program and it was not one bit tiresome. If it were not for fear of tiring you I might go on. She sang Encores to each group and two after the 4th and 5th. One of the songs I am going to get and send you. It suits your voice and is taking: they do not even mention it in the paper. I do not know the name of it but I am going in and

[American Y. M. C. A. letterhead] get name from Mr. Ogden. She sang “Asmire Laurie” and played own accompaniment. In “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and Stars Spangled Banner, she had audience join in on the chorus (part of them did) Will tell you more when I see you. You must hear her first opportunity. If she comes to K. C. I am going to have you hear her. Want you to go hear Lucy Gates when she comes to Miami. One of your write ups there (in Miami) is fair, the other is too much of a copy from you folder to even look good, to anyone who had opportunity to read that. Mrs. Lorenz called me up this morning

and invited me to dinner or lunch there tomorrow. We work here tomorrow so that I could not go to dinner, so will go to lunch in evening. Will take the papers in and show them. Want you to thank Mrs. Harrison and Mrs. J. for me for washing my socks. Mr. Bolick was there last night had quite a little chat with him. He seems to know Ogden pretty well. Oh; I forgot to mention the gown of the singer. She looked well in it. Was a trifle low in the front but this did not detract. Came up pretty well in back. Gown was silk or satin? Lead color with a green overdress and trail. Is this a good description. Lacked several inches of touching the floor

The down stairs was fairly well filled especially in center. There is a Sergent from Joplin in Maj. DeW’s office who is a chum of Cletis Martin has heard you sing several times and likes your voice very much. Did not make any comparisons with the Case voice. She (Anna Case) knows her voice limitations and arranges her programs accordingly. She hasn’t as good breath control as you have, she did not attempt any of the real high work that you do. Only wish that you might have seen and heard her. No developments regarding discharge. Has a little talk with the asst. Division Surgeon this A. M. that may help some. Lt. N. and I are doing our best. We think Maj. DeW is not especially trying to hurry us home.
