[Knights of Columbus letterhead] 11.00 A.M. [November] 11 – 1918 MyDarling Wife : - Another lull in the proceedings here this Morning. Well the morning papers announce that the armistice has been signed. What next? Am not making any Calculations as to what Iam to do or how long Iwill be in the Army. this will all Come up for Consideration later. It is too sudden. Was not disturbed last night after going to bed, which pleased Me. The band wakened Me at 5 45 A.M. playing “A hot time in the Old Town” andwe Knew the Armistice had been signed. then in about 15 minutes we heard a News Boy, Crying “The War is Over”. Hope it will not be long until they feel that My services Can be dispensed with. It is

quite windy here today, but owing to recent rain is not very dusty. Is Cool Enough for an overcoat tofeel Comfortable. Did not have to take the gas Course this week. IKept out of Maj. DeWeese sight until he had given it to some one else (Capt. Wylie) Ido not Care to take the Course unless Conditions make it look like it was necessary and now they do not. 3 00 P.M. No letter from you My dear this Morning. there is yet another Chance today, am hoping. The Capital says the Armistice has been signed, so Iam willing to accept this as final. Then President Wilson has recalled the [November] draft order, which looks good. Wonder when we will begin to Muster them out of service. Can not think or talk of anything else now.

5 30 P.M. [November] 11 – 1918 MyDearest : - The looked for letter Came and pleased Me Muchly. Will get the leave soon and come and hear the Morsel. some gossip. Ican hear them roasting Me too in some of the gatherings, when you aren’t there. Nearly all of the Medical Officers are going down to [Des Moines] tonight, but Iam not one of them. Am going up on the hill to Frilby theatre. Billie Burke is the Star. If you were here Imight think of going to town. We watched a large Aeroplane do a lot of stunts this afternoon. Was very interesting. Do not Know what it is here for, but the operator Knows how to handle his Machine. Maj. De Weese told me today that he had had a nice letter from my daughter, also a pair of wristlets and that he would

write her soon, seemed to be Much pleased. If this next draft is Cut out am wondering what effect it will have on this Camp. It must soon be Mighty quiet, for we are sending a good many away. 9 30 Well my dear, Iam back from the picture show. It was very good, but not Bille Burke. Was a war picture entitled “Till ICome back.” Had some very interesting scenes and very Clever acting. Also had a funny, and travel weekly. Better Keep your Joplin Globes or Presses announcing peace for souvenirs to look at in the future. Will be interesting to look at 10 or 15 yrs. hence. Wish Imight drop in and Chat with you awhile tonight. It may not be many months before Ican do so. Marian says she is doing nicely in school this year and Iam mighty glad to hear it.
