[Knights of Columbus letterhead] 10.15 A.M. [November] 9th 1918 MyDarling Wife : - There is a lull in our work, so Iam going to begin a letter to you. The morning paper does not show any Material Change in the War situation. Ido not look for an acceptance at this time of the terms of an Armistice, but it May Come. If they do not, it will not be long delayed, as it Must Come soon. If it were not for the loss of our boys, Iwould be glad of it. One of the Enlisted Men here was in Hamburg with his Mother when the war broke out. They did not have passports, so when he failed to stand at attention when an Officer entered a restaurant he was fined Fifty dollars

and they were taken to Berlin and put in jail so as tobe under observation. He does not Care much for the Country. However this is all he saw of it, as he had only been there 2 or 3 days prior to this. They are transferring men to the 19th Division now pretty rapidly and they are likely to move before long unless something arises to change the order. 1 00 P.M. 6 00 P.M. [November] 9th 1918 Well My Dear, here goes an Extension of letter begun this morning. Most of the Officers have gone to the City. Iam going to finish this letter to you, take a bath and then go to bed, as Ihave a cold and feel pretty bum think this the best way to get rid of it. the afternoon paper is very encouraging. If the Kaiser has really abdicated it May mean immediate peace terms Can be agreed upon and that they will sign the Armistice. Was disappointed this afternoon when I failed to get a letter from you, but will hope for one tomorrow. Went up to the Camp Exchange tosee about My Suit this afternoon but it was not done. Imay not need it badly if fighting Ceases but will gladly give that Much to have it stop. Incidentally
