[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] 6 00 P.M. [November] 7th 1918 MyDarling Wife : - Have wanted to write you all day, but have had other Calls. Arrived on time this Morning. It was raining, but not hard. Was around Infirmary all morning and back at 302 this afternoon. Foundyour two good letters and the Rocks waiting for me. The Rocks were fine. Igave several of them away and all Enjoyed them. The papers also were here. Thank you very much for all. Florence also sent me the socks. They are nice ones. Ialso enclose a letter which Came from her. She sent it to Ft. Dodge so it was delayed. This Afternoon a package of assorted Cakes Came from Jennie Powers Beatty.

Isn’t it funny that Ishould have both now? Iforgot to tell you that Mrs. Flowers’ Niece Calledme up last [Saturday] in forenoon and invited me out there to dinner Sunday. I refused as Iwas to be officer of the day. and then she wanted to Know about next Sunday and Icould not say that far ahead. When Igot to Ft. Scott last night where the Frisco stops for Supper the Red Cross ladies took me over to their Canteen andgave me a lunch. wasn’t that nice? We were 45 minutes late into K.C. but Ihad time enough. Saw Jno. O’Keefe in the station. It looks tonight like they had actually signed the Armistice. Isn’t that too good tobe true? If only there is some punishment to be meted out to the Kaiser and his advisers. Iam afraid this

We are still Examining Men for Overseas. Have about 600 tomorrow Morning Capt. Engstrom told me. Enjoyed Curts letter and will write him soon. am sorry Idid not get tosee more of Billie. with a French lady. who had Come down from K.C. that morning tosee her and she was returning on the same train Iwent to K.C. on. Ithink Mrs. C. said she was a school friend in Paris. She did not speak English very well. She is over here to attend some Kind of a Conference and is returning to Paris within a week or two. reminds me of your Aunt Nellie. Some More of the Medical Officers leave with troops tomorrow. Ithink they go South. Iam hoping for another opportunity soon. May be Ican get near enough to come home again. Wouldn’t that be fine? Am so anxious for more war news. Theatres andMovies are in full operation in [Des Moines] now. [Camp Dodge] men Can go now, but all of them have tobe in Camp by twelve. Except those who stay all night. Wish Iwas going to see you tonight. It was a mighty short visit. Better return F’s leter as Ihaven’t answered it yet. Just lots of love. Devotedly Everett
