8 10 A.M. [October] 29th 1918. MyDarling Wife : - Will begin a letter to you Now while Iam waiting for them to start work. We had a strenuous day yesterday. worked here until nearly six last night. Then got ready and went to the Army Club in [Des Moines] We had two Automobile loads of Medical officers (10) Iwent in Lt. Parish’s Car with Maj’s King, De Weese, Capt’s Dale. Snell and Lt. Parish. There were 60 or more of the Enlisted men. Then the ladies of the G.R.A. It was a dance lasting until 11. We got home a few Minutes after 12. All of the Medics danced save Maj. Davis Lt. Parish and yours truly. Did not see a single woman there who Could Compare with my wife in looks. They were very nice to all of us. One young woman (a Miss Love) sang two songs. Nothing Extra in the singing line. Maj. DeWeese notified Me last night that Iwas to accompany some troops that were being transferred. Ido not know just when or where. Probably leave today or tomorrow. No letter from you Sunday or Monday. Hope for one or more today. Yesterday was a fine day after the rain. It is not so promising today. It may Clear

later. Forgot to enclose Clipping Conerning the entertainment last night. Will try and do it today. They did not serve anything to Eat last night. Had Frappe to drink. None of the Medical Officers took their wives. Hadmine been here Iwould have objected, as Ithink they should have been there. Later – Maj DeWeese informed me at noon that Iwould not go this time with the troops. Lt. Neumann with some troops not long since to Camp Beauregard and went through Joplin on the K.C. Southern. Hope that Ican go that way or that Ican go South and return that way. Imay get togo later as they are moving troops to different parts of the Country and always send a Medical officer with them. at least I am hoping that Imay have anopportunity to go. It has Cleared off and is a very pleasant day. We had a busy forenoon but this afternoon it is more quiet. My silk shirt was just the thing last night Iput it on over My wool shirt Turned theCollar of Wool shirt in and the Cuffs up, then wore a stiff Collar with the silk shirt. Am gladIhave it, was afraid to take off My wool shirt andwear a thin one and this solves the problem.
