[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] 5 00 P.M. [October] 29th 1918 My Dearest – Fifteen years ago at this time we were some busy people. In some respects it seems a short while, in others when we think of the happenings and Changes in our lives it seems a good while. The next fifteen may or may not make as many. Your two good letters Came today, both of them Post Marked 7 30 P.M. Oct. 27 should have rec’d in P.M. yesterday but they did not Come. You are not the only one who has had rain. We had some too. Expect to get my Check tomorrow or next day and will send it to you. Do not Check on this money left in the [Des Moines] bank but leave it for me to use. Iam hoping to make this carry me through [November] and [December] you know that you had $100. balance there. You gave me Check for $75. before you out of which I paid Ap’t. rent of $23 50 and the other incidentals. Ihave

enough topay My board tomorrow but will have to have some for paying next Month. My Expenses May be more later, particularly if I have to go more to functions in [Des Moines] often. They have to postpone the Grand Opera again on account of the quarantine. We Can not attend things of this Kind yet. Iwrote you that Grand Opera was to be [November] 1 & 2nd. Would not Care so much for the Beans or Soup, but would give a good deal to be there. We had fried Chicken for supper tonight Our Mess is all one Could ask for. Always have good Eats. They have a school here for teaching use of Gas Masks. Lt. Neumann is taking it this week and Maj. De W just informed me that Iwould be it next. Do not anticipate Much joy in it. But we are in the Army and have to do lots of things. War new still looks good. but am afraid of the peace terms. Besure and let MeKnow about Check Union F. Co. Hope for a letter tomorrow any kind of paper looks alright tome. With just lots of love. Devotedly Everett
