War Department Office of the Director of Military Aeronautics Washington December 13, 1918. Special Orders No. 15 Extract 4. By direction of the President, and under the provisions of Section 9, Act of Congress, May 18, 1917, and Circular No. 75, War Department, 1918, Second Lieutenant Francis Poindexter, A.S.A., is honorably discharged from the Service of the United States, for the convenience of the Government, to take effect this date, his services being no longer required. By order of Major General Kenly: Rush B. Lincoln, Lieutenant-Colonel, A.S.A., Chief of Personnel. By H.C. Sigourney, Captain, A.S.A., Executive Officer. This officer is entitled to reduced fare to Kansas, City, [Missouri]. Thomas Duncan, Lt. Col., J.M.A., A.S.A.

Description Francis Poindexter, of Kansas City, Missouri, enlisted in the 2nd Missouri Field Artillery (later the 129th Field Artillery), on June 13, 1917. He attended Divisional Officers Training School at Camp Doniphan, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Upon completion of the school, Poindexter transferred to the Air Service and attended the School of Military Aeronautics in Austin, Texas. He graduated with Class 38 on April 6, 1918. Poindexter continued his training at the Wilbur Wright Field, in Fairfield, Ohio, and was assigned to flight duty July 7, 1918. On August 12, 1918, 2nd Lt. Poindexter was seriously injured in a crash near Springfield, Ohio and was treated at Walter Reed Hospital and on total disability after his discharge, effective December 13, 1918. These Special Orders, by direction of the President, Francis Poindexter was honorably discharged from military service.
