Description | Francis Poindexter, of Kansas City, Missouri, enlisted in the 2nd Missouri Field Artillery (later the 129th Field Artillery), on June 13, 1917. He attended Divisional Officers Training School at Camp Doniphan, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Upon completion of the school, Poindexter transferred to the Air Service and attended the School of Military Aeronautics in Austin, Texas. He graduated with Class 38 on April 6, 1918. Poindexter continued his training at the Wilbur Wright Field, in Fairfield, Ohio, and was assigned to flight duty July 7, 1918. On August 12, 1918, 2nd Lt. Poindexter was seriously injured in a crash near Springfield, Ohio and was treated at Walter Reed Hospital and on total disability after his discharge, effective December 13, 1918. Newspaper clipping entitled Grandson of Mrs. J.A. Keller injured. Keller's grandson is Francis Poindexter. He was injured in Springfield, Ohio on August 12, 1818 when their plane crashed. |
