Camp Doniphan, Oklahoma. February 1, 1918. To Whom It May Concern. This is to advise that Francis Poindexter, now transferred to the Aviation School, as Private, has served in this regiment since August 5, 1917 as Regimental Sergeant Major, during which time his service was of the very highest order and entirely satisfactory. His duties have always been performed diligently and intelligently, and it is with regret that I lose him as Regimental Sergeant Major. F L D Carr Captain 129th F.A. Adjutant.

Description Francis Poindexter, of Kansas City, Missouri, enlisted in the 2nd Missouri Field Artillery (later the 129th Field Artillery), on June 13, 1917. He attended Divisional Officers Training School at Camp Doniphan, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Upon completion of the school, Poindexter transferred to the Air Service and attended the School of Military Aeronautics in Austin, Texas. He graduated with Class 38 on April 6, 1918. Poindexter continued his training at the Wilbur Wright Field, in Fairfield, Ohio, and was assigned to flight duty July 7, 1918. On August 12, 1918, 2nd Lt. Poindexter was seriously injured in a crash near Springfield, Ohio and was treated at Walter Reed Hospital and on total disability after his discharge, effective December 13, 1918. This is a letter of Recommendation for Francis Poindexter. It was written by F.L.D. Carr, Captain of the 129th Field Artillery.
