March 28, 1918 [censor’s stamp] Dearest Mother, I got your letter from Texas the other day so glad you are down there with Val. I also had a letter from Nenaine telling me that Fax has sailed. I hope I run into him but there is not much chance of that as we are with the French armies. At last we are going to move (I hope). We are now attached to a very swank division and are under order to be ready to

move at any moment but as yet the order has not come. I hope that means action in the big affair but am rather afraid we will get left behind again. We have been en repos so long that I haven't faith in anything but that something will keep us here or in some other hole where we won't see any action. Late afternoon Still no order to move. here when so much is going on. It's bad enough to be idle when everyone else is but it's a lot worse when you know the greatest battle is going on and you can't raise a finger if they can't use us as drivers I wish they would give us guns and let us get in that way! This suspense is like watching a fire burning your house and doing nothing to prevent it. All of my love to you and the family. I will write again as soon as I know definitely whether we get action or not. Towner
