July 3, 1917 Dearest Mother, Tomorrow we get our call from the French government, that means that our 4th instead of a celebration will be a day of hard work beginning at 7:30 A.M. I got a letter from Janet the other day and one from Val! I am strong for Val coming over in January. Conditions are still unsettled owing to the U. S. Army coming over but things will soon crystalize and then I will know better what is what.

I have a rotten bad cold in the head today
