Sidney Towner Phelan letter to mother - February 13, 1918
Transcript
[February] 13, 1918 [censor’s stamp] Dearest Mother, Yesterday I received your package containing the sweater, wristlets, sox, etc. Thanks lots! Those sox are wonderful. I don’t need anything more in line of clothes or toilet articles except toothbrushes. I don’t like the French tooth brushes---they aren’t stiff enough. I wish you would send me two. Will you also send a box of calling cards, 10 rolls of camera films (No.2 Brownie Eastman), and that book on Bridge by McCampbell. If you ever send eats, salted peanuts and peanut butter go awfully well. I got that safety razor Aunt Winnie sent. I am going to write and thank her today.

Last night I sent a package to you containing a beret for Janet and a Fourragere. Tell me when you get it. I think this damn war is going on forever. Tell Miss Markham I received her letter and answered it. I have just read the Morals of Marcus Ordeyne. Isn’t it some story? I got that [ms illegible: 1 wd] you sent and also the [St. Louis Post Dispatch] Thanks! I wasn’t keen for that article about E. and myself. Lots of love, Towner P.S. Don’t forget to send those 15 copies of Robert Drakes article in the [St. Louis Post Dispatch]
