April 3, 1918 Dearest Mother, [censor’s stamp] We are still here. Today we will be joined by more men and cars. Just what that means I don't know I hope it's action. We don't know whether the addition of men and cars is temporary or permanent. There is absolutely nothing going on nothing to write about. This morning we go on a long hike. We have occasional drills

walks and lectures which help somewhat to pass the time. I wish you would send me some books not many and not bulky. Don't send novels plays and poetry are more what I want. None of this Russian stuff or anything very deep but not much. Do you get me? No you don't! If you can find the "Spoon River Anthology" send that also

I think he's the one who writes those one act plays, "The Lost Silk Hat" etc., Shaw, Tagore, Sara Teasdale that will give you an idea of the types of stuff I want. The [St. Louis Post Dispatch] is not getting to me neither is the censor. I can't so much for the mail. Afternoon Just got a letter from Nenaine dated March 10. The letter fell out of the envelope looks as if it had been through the war. Hope I run into Fax but there is not much chance. Lots of love, Towner
