Eugene V. Debs letter to Frank P. O'Hare - April 4,1918
Transcript
April 4th., 1918 Dear Frank:- Have your letter to Phil of the 2nd., or rather copy of it, and it had given me great satisfaction. I am sure it did Phil good in a real way and he certainly deserved the fine compliment you paid him. This appreciative expression from you at this time will have a happy effect. I am fully repaid if my very small part in the April S.R. contributed in any degree to bringing about this result. This is the relation that should exist and the spirit that should prevail between us at all times. I am glad you enclosed the statement just issued by the L.D.U. setting forth the measures taken for the defense of Scott Nearing and emphasizing the importance of the case. Nearing is one of our biggest and best performers and his indictment and its meaning should be made clear so as to arouse the people as far as possible as to the vital issue it involves. Wishing you continued and unbounded success in your labors Yours always, Gene
