Description |
Personnel files for John J. Pershing containing financial records for the payment of officers during World War I. John J. Pershing was born on September 13, 1860 in Laclede, Missouri. He led the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe during World War I. His command eventually led to the German call for the signing of the armistice on November 11, 1918, though even after, Pershing ordered his troops to continue fighting. This led to a high death toll on the last day of the war. His service during World War I saw Pershing promoted to General of the Armies of the United States in 1919, the highest rank possible for any member of the United States armed forces. He later became the Chief of Staff of the United States Army from 1921 until 1924. He died on July 15, 1948.
|
