Description <p>Military personnel record files for Edwin Wiese containing correspondence concerning his various awards received during World War I including, recommendation for award letters, award announcements, witness testimonials of combat, and award applications. Private Wiese served in Company C, 355th Infantry, 89th Division. He entered the military on February 23, 1918 and was discharged on June 4, 1919. He was wounded November 5, 1918 and as a result received the Purple Heart. For his gallantry in action, Wiese was also awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Croix de Guerre for capturing two enemy machine guns at Essey, France while under fire.</p>
