Description Portrait drawing of Toney M. Jenkins. He was born on October 10, 1895. He resided in Richland, Missouri and later in Jefferson City. He enlisted in the military in Fayette, Missouri on October 29, 1917. He died of wounds received in action on September 28, 1918. He is believed to be the first African American killed in action from Cole County. The American Legion Post in Jefferson City is named after Jenkins.
