Our Trip to France [August] 18 1931 Left Liberty 9.35 in the evening Landed in Chicago 930 Sunday morning Left at 11 o clock for New York Road in Sleapers all the way went to bed at 10 had a good bed and a good night Rest got got up at 5 oclock Dressed and looked out the Window till Breakfest hat a good Breakfest Corn flakes that hat Roals Coffee all for 75 cents Sunday Noon We had a fine Dinner all for $1.10 Monday Morning [August] 10 We were in Ohio Sure a Pretty Countrey Corn looked good and oats I never saw so many Shachs almost tuch each others Tuesday Morning [August] 11 830 jest had Beakfest and We in Pencelvana at the foot of the Mountins Sure is Butiful Seen tree and watter I jest ben talken to a french lady that the first one I seen She was quite intresting She jest got off the train and heare comes 3 more Ware mothers as We Say Sistars So We are 9 Now We Still in Sleeping cars each have 2 seats and 4 can be seated and have a chat We call them our homes and all live in town as We Say.

tuesday 2 oclock Dinner is over We are Still in Pencelvana I think it the most interesting place I ever Saw Mountians Lakes and Butiful towns and contrey all surounded with Mountians and trees a butiful sight We landed a bout 5 oclock [August] 10 in New York then We ware met by armey oficers and checked and found our Suit cases then We took the Bus and went to Hudson River and came a crost on the Larid Boat thin to the Hotell Astar thin We Ware Showen to our Rooms Which Ware nicely furnished with 2 Chares Couch Writen tabel and all the Materieal takes With thormath bathe filled with good cold watter Reading Lamps desk lamps Dressers an Ward Wrobe 2 beds Books to Read We Ware on 3 flore after We had our bath We Went down to Supper and Such a Supper everything So good and the best of it Was We eat and Wiped our mouth and left the tabel So now it a Raining and We go to bed and get a good nites Rest

New York tuesday morning [August] 11 We all went Sight Seeing We Ware 109 So far all Sisters as We Say thare Ware 5 bus loads We Started at 9 0clock and got back at 1230 oclock We had a Wonderful trip the Hotell Astar Whare We are has a thousand Rooms Mrs Trmenger and I are on third floor every thing butifuly furnished the dining Room Was Pretty and it was a spshel one for us and the eats Sure Ware good and We Sure did get Waited on jest so now More a bout our drive our Lutenent would tell us What We See a head So We look When We got to it that is the most intresting Places We Saw the River side Baptis Church Which is butiful We Saw the River Side Drive and Park and BradWay 14 Miles long it the longest Street in New York We Saw the Bradcasting Station but Not ames and andy We Saw the largest theatar in New York We saw the Public Liby Holds 3 millons Boddies at the same place I saw the State Building largest Building in the World We Saw the Empier Building 102 Staries high we Saw 20 Storie hig flat train building Sure was Some

August 12 1932 When we left Hobucken the Mayer of New York gave us all a Silk flag With his best wishes So we all would good old US good by We Sailed [August] 12 at 12 oclock Sharp We Started at 9 oclock from the Hotell Astar by Buss the the Band played for us as We arrived and as We left We all Woured our flags as We moved Slowly out sure was a big crowd to see us off the Ship sure is Nice We have a nice Room jest like in a House a Rug on flour 2 chares 2 beds bath Room electric fan and lights [August] 13 We are having a great time to day Went to breakfest at 8 oclock We ben buisy all day taken in the sights it is like in a big Hotel We went on [ms: illegible 1 wd] deck and Watched the young folks play gulf the Resten Room sure is Nice With all a Pallist furniture the Library is nice to all kinds of books to Read then the Writen Room With Writen desks and all the Materail you Wanted to use the dinning Rooms Ware butiful decorated all the tabels had fresh flowers on this ship has 3 decks We Ware on all of them We took Pichures on the uper deck to day We Saw a big ship comin to day it Was the English Ship Magestic We had a Storm yesterday and they said thare Was a little land trubbe Sure Was Rough Riding and quite a few jest Went to bed and the Da Wore quite buisy and the Nurses to We have 4 De on this ship it ben Real Cool Most of us have ben Waving our coats We are feeling fine and ben out sight Seeing all morning

and getting a quanted it is 6.15 oclock and the bugal call is on no for eats Supper after Supper We went out on Deck to the Picture Show after show up to the entertaning Room Whare they Playing and Dancing that is the Saitey Ladies We walked our mile every day they say 4 times a Round deck is a Mile [August] 14 got up 20 minuts of 6 Went to Chappl to Mass then out on deck and Mad 1 Round then breakfast Now in our Room then to this Lamp We Saw a Man With long black beard our friend sed that Warth a quarter [ms: illegible 1 wd] it 3 oclock We Walked another Mile this after noon on deck and at 4 oclock the Push cart cames With tea or coffee and cake and cokies and crackers and in the Morning We had liat Sup and crackers the Gold Stars chare and blancet on deck and each one had thar Place at the tabel and a Waitor for each tabel We ware intestamed one night in sasal Room With a artifishel hen She layed 3 eggs and a artifishel cat Would cry like a Real cat [August] 15 Saturday morning got up at 6 Went out on deck to see if We could See a big fish but failed to see any but Saw Plenty Sea gulls flying after the ship then breakest then took our Usul Mile Walk then at 11 oclock We Went to the kitchen to see Whare our eats Ware cooked then to the [ms: illegible 1 wd] dining Room Which Was nice Peace thare tabels Would Seat about 300 at once thare Ware So many difrent Rooms Butcher Shop dish Washing R Bakery and a Room Whare they got things Ready to cook a Room for coal and Rooms Whare the Worker men and famleys lined then We Saw the big tran Beam that guides the ship

Sunday Night We all went to Sosal Room the orgestar Played and We Sang old fashen Songs We the Saw the big boat Amarican Relinest Hanburc Monday [August] 17 We went on deck and Watch the big fish Stick up thare heads Saw 3 boats after dinner We Went to the Deck and had more pictures taken [August] 17 at 2 o clock We had More Pctures taken on uper deck at 430 Whach a fire drill to Show us how to do in case of fire and how to use life savers then We had a thrill We saw a great bunch of fish thare Must a ben 50 or more in a Row then We saw 4 ships 1 Was the Ship Hamburg of Germana [August] 18 Cloudy cold and Stormey and Rough Sea took our usul Walk Went to the Library and Wrote letters then We had a Socal time [August] 18 3.30 oclock We gathered in the Sosal Room for a Party in Annal of 3 Mothers thare Was a short talk and Slite hand Performance then each Mother cut the first Slice out of her cake then the Waiter Searved us with cake and tea then they gave to the ones that gave the Party and the oldes Mother that had a birthday gone a Prare She Was a quaker Mis Winsolo from Indana

[August] 18 to night the Captan gave us a big banquat the dining Room Was butiful decorated the tabels Ware decorated We each got a Paper Hat Which Was placed on our Head our Napkins Ware roled in Shape of a Ship and a American Flag Placed in the lap We each got a book With Stars 4 stripes that is for the Captan the Menue Coctail Peas 2 large Peces of turkey and cranberey bun an Ice cream and 6 difrent kinds of cake the turkey came from Vermont We all had a jolly good time We all Went to the Socal Room and Wore our Hats the Young folks Danced and the Dr Sang 3 Songs [August] 19 We took our Usul Walk then We Went to boat brige 12 of us at a time to see the boat grid Which is Run With electric We saw the big cumpes Which guides the Way and the Sun Cap it is awfly Rough today [August] 19 after noon our Lutenant gave us orders and a bage to ware always While We ware in France and also our car and Suit Case No and told how to change our Money for French money about 10 oclock to night We See the light over in England to [August] 20 We got up at 5 oclock and Went out on deck and See England came in Sight then We Watched the boats come for Mail the Ocan Was very Rough When at Lunch the boat Rocked the dishes Sliped of the tabel and thare Was quite an excitement for a While then at 2 oclock We all went to the Turest Resting Room and Waited for our boat and at 3 oclock We all Was loaded took quite a While to load 220 Suit cases for a 10 minute Ride then hade to handel them all agan Sa at 4 oclock We started for Plmoth then we all went to the littel train We ware 6 in a Place then for a 6 our Ride We had Supper in a french dining care it Was served in cases Scambeled eggs first then Pea sup and home Made bread french potatoes [ms illegible: 2 wds] & Cookies Ice cream and Coffee We enjoyed our supper We Saw some Sights on the train

the Cuntrey near Sherburg was butiful all littel Places like garden Spots the houses are all very old and made of brick and stone some of the hous Roofs ware green with Moss and as We got futher out We Saw great fields of grain Wheat oats Potadoes turnips and tobaco they [ms illegible: 1 wd] lots of crabapples other apples and Plums We saw them thrash they halled the grain in to the Machien With tow Whea carts and 3 horses hitched in a Row and a head of the other When We got to Paris We Ware led to our buses by the armey oficer then they took us to the Hotell Jena Whare We Ware Showen to our Rooms Which Was butiful every thing Was Red eaven the corparts an the bed was Red Silk We had Brakfest at 8 0clock this Hotell has 340 Rooms [August] 22 at 230 oclock We Went Buss Riding and took in the Sights We saw the most butiful Parks for Children to Play in thare no grass just sand the French [ms illegible: 1 wd] in Raisen Lanleys We saw the big bradcasting tower Whare the bradcast to the United States they have a great many tall buildings all made of concreat we enjoyed our trip then after supper We had a Socal time meating With a new bunch that came in from the Cuntry and they on thare Way home [August] 23 after breakfest we Went for our usul Walk and Went to the American Leagan building it Wasant quite finished yet the boys ware so proud of us and they showed us threw the building and [ms illegible: 1 wd]Room butiful finished then We walked back to the Jena [August] 23 We met Dr Luis at Liberty Mohe came to the Hotell to see us We chatted a bout a half our then We all left by buss for a memor Serues for the french and our oldest Mother 77 years old layed the Reath on the [ms illegible: 1 wd] glove and are Was layed for those burried at Sea thare Was a great crowed of people gatherd thare and We marched 2 by 2 and lined up it Was a sad sight then We went to a Restrerut and Seated around tables then the Magor and Several others gave us a Welcome adress and one of the nurses that Was With the days a very tuching talk and sed many one of our boys Said before he died O how I wish I could see Mother then She broke down an cryed She Was french She sed it Was So teribel She shook hands With us all then We had tea and cream and cookies then We went to our buss

and back to the Hotell Jena it was Poring the Rain Sunday Mor [August] 23 We Went to Church 1030 hird a good Serman then We looked over the New Church Which will be dedicated next Sunday by Joseph Wilson cachron minster at 230 We Went for a drive 2 buss loads 20 miles and Saw many Intresting Sights and took a Walk in a butiful Park and Walked a Round the old Sinel Ware building it all mad of Concrate and Stone thare only a lutenent lives in thare and thare great high Walls a round it Which they which they filled with Watter and if the enemy came near they had geat troths Whare they shoot the hat Watter an then the name of this building is Shot [August] 24 We Went Shoping in the fore noon after noon We Went out to Nate Dame Sight seeing buildings is So large and We saw So many Statues in it and it one of the oldest buildings 700 years old 450 feet long 170 wide 150 feet high 23 [ms illegible: 1 wd] We Ware in the jewal Room Saw all Silver and Gold oraments the most Was Mounted an a frame We Saw a Wheel Which Was Mounted and it had 2000 Rubies and they turned on the lites and it Was butiful two millon people visit it last yeare our lutenent Was our guid and thare Was So many people in thare and could harly get by We Saw the love butiful Rose Cullard Windows Which Ware taken out during the Ware and hid over in Lrand so So the Germans wouldent distroy them We saw butiful statues of bible times We saw Hats hung up that the old peachers wore they let them hang till they fall to peaces they use to burrie them under the floor in this building [August] 25 We packed our grip and at 10 oclock We ware ready to leave Paris We started and drove 60 miles WE saw large fields of Wheat Shacks as far as one could see they have hard Serfic Roads and trees planted on both sides We past the movement of belgen and French Shaking Hands We went threw Lagney thare We crost Marn River then We stayed at a town Crlacy the Germans captured it

September 5 1914 the French Recaptured it a few days later We Past the Hospitalof the 2 and 3 division we Past the british movement We went threw Chattanbirey We saw the Peace Whare the Germans fired the big gun Bertha they tryed to hit Noter Dame 70 miles away mised Notra Dame but a Church and killed 100 People then We stayed at the Hotell Terrasee for tea then We went an We saw Shell holes and holes in the Sid of the hills Some Ware Round others Square and We saw a great many Rivers We came a bout 75 miles from Paris to the hotell Sassans stoped for the night [August] 26 We had breakfest and Started for Blue Wood and cematary and took in Some terible sights Whare the talkee was the trees and brush was very thick and dark the cematary was very butiful all kinds of flowers and srubs and a butiful location With a large hill for back ground and the grasses Ware very Pretty but a sad sight then each of us got 2 flags and French and one USA then each of us Was given a large Reath to Place on a Grave some found thare boys grave and some ware Unnoen So the [ms illegible: 1 wd] Mothers Placed a Reath on a Unanen grave saying it Mite be my boy So We each had a Picture at the grave We clamed then We went to lunch then We went to See the New Minaral Which Will be butiful When finished then We went to see a large Church Near the Cematarey Which Was Which Was Ruined by Ware and the American boys are Reparing it they are building a large New Church at the Cematary and a large drive Way the cematarey has a Stone Wall around it the White crosses are in ground X Heare Rest in Honored glory American Soldier Unown but to get thare tow thousend eight Hundard and 5 in bene Wood Dead and 2 hundared and 52 Unknowen We Ware Rite in Whare the big battle fields Ware Whare Fred and Jim Mite a ben killed it was jest at the time they Ware killed When the big battle Was on Saw the holes and trenches they fought in the Machen guns Ware sill in the holes the boy shoes and hilments still lay a Round thare it Was terible

[September] 1 We Went to the Palace Lonnr Lew the 13 and 14 it a large building that covers 16 acers those Ware many old statues of difrent Kings and the Kings use to Run it We saw We saw the queens crown the one that was be headed and the Kings crow and We saw the large dimons in the Crowns and thare Ware great pearntincy of bible pictures and we saw a great many other thing Intresting after noon We Went to the Police Verscilles it was of are and Pantings the most Intresting things thare Ware the Parks the statues and flowers and fountians and how they Ware aranged and the trees and the Way they Ware turned [September] 2 830 oclock We went shoping to a larg department store and at 1130 we had dinner We Went sight seeing when We got back We packed our grip to start on our jearney home [September] 3 We started for Sheberg at 0 oclock it was a 6 our Ride from Paris WE were on bard of the Small ship about 4 oclock and in 15 minuts We Ware landed on the big boat We started 630 oclock and that night we had a big storm and We ware a bout all sick only a bout 12 went to the table this was [September] 4 We landed in Irland Queen City and our ship met the ship from Gemaney and loaded a bout 80 Pashingers and a lot of Mail [September] 5 it Was very Stormy Not Much a doing till Supper When We Went to the table We all had a Paper Hat which Was Placed on our head then We all had a good Laugh then after Supper we had Picture Show on deck and danced in Socal Room [September] 6 We Went to Preaching in Socal Room then set out on deck till bed time Sunday Night [September] 6 the young folks danced [September] 10 We dident do much but Watch for fish and seen a boat come in at 330 We had a birthday Party thare Ware 4 birth days We all set around tabels and the Waiters served us With tea and cake then We Packed then had supper then We Went out on deck for the evening

[September] 11 We had breakfest at 615 oclock and We had landed about 230 that morning WE Ware quarnteened till about 9 oclock then we all got tickets to elave the boat then they turned the boat near the Statue of Liberty and Pooled in to Port We all got off and landed in a large building and seated each Whare thare nilue of thare name Was then We got our Keay Ready and our suit case Was opened and the lid lifted a Peopl then We locked it again then to our busses and brought to the Hotell in New York it was 1130 oclock then We Ware lined up and seated and called out by one to get our orders and our tickets for have then to our to our Rooms and got Ready for Dinner We Sure was hungrey then for a Rest then We went up on top of the Hotell Astar Whare We ware Which has a thousand Rooms and has a butiful garden of flowers and shrubs a place to dance a fish Pond this is What We saw on top of the Hotell and We had a Room bit for a King HaHa after supper [September] 11 We Went to conay Island a butiful Place one seen most everything that could be made with electrcy lites thare ware towers Wheels Marry go arounds and difrent anamals We crost the Hudson River on the Way out to Island the end
