The scraps were gathered up by him and brought home. After a period of fifteen years, he came across them, pieced them together and brought them to the Missouri Historical Society, with the request, that the letter should not be made public, or even shown until after the death of himself, General Eugene Spencer and Col. McMahon. June 15, 1935.
