Headquarters, 164th F.A. Brigade American Expeditionary Forces 27th October, 1918 Map Chameley, 5-6. 1/20,000. Operations Order: Number 18. 1. On the night of October 27-28, the Bois de Dommartin will be raided by a party of infantry. 2. The 1st Bn. 341st Field Artillery: Mission: To cover the advance of the infantry through Bois de Dommartin and to protect its withdrawal. Method of Fire: To deliver a barrage on the southwest edge of Bois de Dommartin from 361.200-246.700 to 361.580-246.220, at hour H. Lifting at hour H plus 12 to deliver a rolling barrage progressing at the rate of 50 meters per minute until reaching the line from 361.560-247.000 to 362.140-246.470, where a standing barrage will be delivered until the end of the raid. The rate of fire will be 5 rounds per piece per minute from H to H plus 2.3 rounds per piece per minute from H plus 2 until H plus 23 and 1 round per piece per minute from H plus 23 until H plus 90. 3. The 2nd Bn., 341st Field Artillery: Mission: To neutralize the machine guns on the slopes of Grande Fontaine, from the wire south of Charey to the southwest edge of the slope, covering the area between the crest and the unimproved road from Charey to crossroads 220.3, and paying particular attention to the machine guns on the projection of the hill at B3155 Method of Fire: Combing fire, combined with violent bursts. The rate of fire will be 3 rounds per piece per minute form H to H plus 23, and 1 per piece per minute from H plus 23 until H plus 90 3. The 2nd Bn., 340th Field Artillery: Mission: To deliver a rolling barrage from the south edge of Bois de Dommartin and to protect the infantry from hostile attack from the north. Method of Fire: At the hour H a barrage will be delivered along the edge of the woods from 361.380-246.220 to 362.020-246.350; lifting at H plus 5 the barrage will proceed by 50 meter jumps until it reaches the line from 361.020-247.160 to 361.560-247.000 at H plus 22. The rate of fire will be that given in paragraph 2. 5. Batteries A&C. 1st Bn., 340th Field Artillery: Mission: To cover the advance of the infantry and its withdrawal. Method of Fire: At the hour H, fire will be opened on the line from 362.140-246.470 to 362.420-246.100. The rate of fire will be that prescribed in paragraph 2.

6. The 90 [m.s. illegible: 1 wd] of the 341st Field Artillery will open fire on the salient in the roads, tracks and wire southwest of Dampvitoux at hour H, continuing until hour H plus 90. The rate of fire will be one round per piece per minute. 7. The 90 M/M guns of the 340th Field Artillery will deliver fire on the zone included by the following points: 362.550-246.100, 362.860-246.200, 362.860-245.900 and 362.550-245.900. The rate of fire will be one round per piece per minute. 8. One battery of the 342nd Field Artillery will deliver a fire on Marimbois Farm on the area enclosed by the following coordinates: 360.600-246.970, 360.620-246.860, 360.770-247.050 and 360.900-246.900. The rate of fire will be 2 rounds per piece per minute from H to H plus 5, and one round per piece per minute from H plus 5 until H plus 90. 9. One battery of the 342nd Field Artillery will deliver fire on the depot of material near B1366, and the small warehouses from H until H plus 15. From H plus 15 until H plus 90 they will deliver fire on the sensitive points in the salient of tracks, roads and wire near B2070. The rate of fire will be that given in paragraph 8. 10. One battery of the 342nd Field Artillery will deliver fire on the exit of the road through the wire and machine guns near B3070. The rate of fire will be that given in paragraph 8. 11. One battery of the 342nd Field Artillery will deliver fire on a zone limited by crossroads at B3066, B3162 and a zone 150 meters in depth to the east of these points. The rate of fire will be that given in paragraph 8. 12. From H until H plus 15 the Trench Mortar Battery will deliver fire as rapid as is consistent with its material on the warehouses near the crossroads at 361.300-246.600 13. In case the infantry returns to its trenches before H plus 90, a signal rocket will be discharged for the sessation of fire. 14. Watches will be synchronized at 17:00 hours at these Headquarters. Rate of Fire: For the 6 batteries, 134th Field Artillery, during the rolling barrage, and the 3 batteries of the 341st Field Artillery, the rate of fire will be: From H to H plus 5 minutes, 4 rounds per piece per minute, From H plus 5 to H plus 8, 2 rounds per piece per minute, From H plus 8 to H plus 14, 5 rounds per piece per minute. For the 2 batteries of the 134th Field Artillery and the 2 batteries of the 340th Field Artillery, during fire on the sides of the woods, the rate of fire will be: 2 rounds per piece per minute from H to H plus 14, For the 342d Field Artillery, the rate of fire will be: 2 rounds per piece per minute from H plus 8 to H plus 14. 8 Watches will be synchronized by telephone from these Headquarters.
