Macon, [Missouri November] 21- 1918, Dear Miss Beauregard: Enclosed find biographical sketches of Lieuts Doneghy and Patton. Under separate cover I am mailing photograph of these men in military uniforms. Later on I think I can comply with your request to send letters written by them from the other side. After next week

I began to secure war records of the Macon Co. men in July 1917. I believe I was the first person in [Missouri] to take up this work. I wrote in 1917 to Mr. Floyd Shoemaker of Columbia suggesting that it be made a State work_ Mr Shoemaker replied he thought it should be done, but lack of men and money prevented him from doing anything. On my books I have enrolled the names of one thousand one hundred and fifteen men from Macon Co. The last time

I counted the records filled in and relevived to me, I had six hundred and eighty. I have about five hundred blanks out to be filled in and returned. The Womans Committee Council of Defense incorporated this work in their Health and Recreation Dept. and I note request that these forms be sent into the [Missouri] Historical Society. My object in Securing this data was for a Macon Co. history. After I have finished using Macon Co. war records, I will comply with this request, unless, our citizens wish them placed in our Library. I will have time to look over my sons letters, and make a selection. Lieut Patton, formerly was a Macon boy- he enlisted from St Louis, and expects to make St Louis his home. He lives with his sister, Mrs. Tom Dysast 4925 Lindell Blvd. Mr Dysast is a member of the William R. Compton Band Co. of St Louis. With the photograph I enclosed a magazine issued [April] 30,
