Thus- My dear little and only Soldier boy (Audience- Holy jumpin Jesus Christ) I take so much pleasure in writeing to you as you are the only one in service I have to write to besides my brother (A- poor gurrrl) I have just taken an apple pie out of the oven, and ( A- shut up you damned dutch sympathizer) was wondering if you ever get any pie (Freckled faced lance Corp- oui oui, gimmie some [m.s. illegible: 1 wd] water, tell er we get ice cream and coconut cake for breakfest, cream puffs and oodles and gobs of chocolate candie for midnight lunch) are if you ever are realy hungry (A-tell her we still have some of the can of Salmon and square inch of bread that was given to five of us last tuesday a week ago). I made some doughnuts this -(A- Wow! shooter at Sunrise, Sunrise hell, why prolong the agony) evening and they were deeeelicious (Acting private Schultz- Say Corp, are you disgusted with life, that a fine gal you got, every damn letter she writes is about feedin or fare or going to forest park highlands with some fat headed slacker) Etc, thats what we have to put up with every time we get mail and it usualy last from supper time until lights out.

Description | Private Edward W. Meier of St. Louis, Missouri, served with the 138th Infantry during World War One. Meier wrote his cousin-in-law Frank Baebler, also of Saint Louis, several humorous letters during the War. In this letter Meier described his time in France and what it was like to receive and read letters. |
