G-3/12 Headquarters 28th Division American Expeditionary Force France. 28 October, 1918. Daily Operations Report From noon 27 [October] to noon 28 [October 1918]. I. Hostile Situation at beginning of the day. Unchanged. II. Information received of the enemy during day. Machine gun positions at 366.15-244.02 and 366.2-24411 verified by patrols. Patrols also located six machine guns between points 369.7-243.9 and 365.0-244.1. Enemy appears active in strengthening outpost positions and building machine gun emplacements. See Intelligence Summary for statements of enemy prisoners captured in the Bois de Dommartin, night of 27/28 October. III. Hostile Movements and Conduct during day. (a) Infantry: Bursts of machine gun fire on our entire front during day and night; heaviest fire appears to come from edge of woods between 365.7-243.9 and 365.9-244.1 (b) Artillery: In our right sub-sector a noted decrease in enemy artillery activity. In the left sub-sector approximately 300 shells fell during the period of report, most of these were directed against the St. Benoit-Beney road, 40 gas shells reported in this sector during period. (c) Aeronautics: Increase in enemy aerial activity. Nearly all observation flights. (d) Movements: Usual movements of enemy working parties in front of our right sector noted during day. IV. Maps Illustrating Above. None. V. Own Situation at beginning of day. Unchanged. Own Changes, Movements and Actions during day. (a) Infantry: In our left sub-sector two raiding parties penetrated the Bois de Dommartin, taking three prisoners and located enemy wire, trench system and machine gun positions. In our right sub-sector raiding parties were unsuccessful in reaching their objective due to enemy machine gun fire. This party located the six machine gun positions reported under II. (b) Artillery: The Bois de Perriere shelled with 250 gas shells; barrage furnished for raiding party in the Bois de Dommartin. (c) Aeronautics: Increase in aerial activity no combats noted in this sector. One Allied plane made forced landing on hill about 1 km. east of Pannes. Plane damaged; neither pilot nor observer hurt. (d) Movements: During the night 27/28 October, two companies from the 1st Bn. and two companies from the 2nd Bn. of the110th Infantry relieved one battalion of the 39th French Division in the parrallel of resistance. The machine gun company, 110th Inf. relieved one company, French machine gun Bn. in the parallel of resistance. Cos. C. and D. of the 108th M.G. Bn., relieved two companies French M.G.Bn. in the parallel of resistance. Two MG.Cos. of the 7th Division relieved 2 Cos. of the 107th M.G.Bn. One Bn., 64th Inf. relieved the 1st Bn. 111th Infantry in the vicinity of Thiaucourt. VII. Information received of neighboring units. The 7th Division on our right is taking over the right portion of the sector formerly held by this Division, in accordance with F.O. #47, 24 October, IVth Army Corps.
