G-3/14. Headquarters 28th Division American Expeditionary Force France. 30 October, 1918. Daily Operations Report From noon 29 [October], to noon 30 [October], 1918. I. Hostile Situation at beginning of the day. Unchanged. II. Information received of the enemy during day. Our patrols located two machine guns at approximately 360.02-248.70 and two others at Park de Aviation. Enemy appears to have had a concentration of about 200 men in the Bois de Dommartin during evening October 29. III. Hostile Movements and Conduct during day. (a) Infantry: Machine guns and rifle fire normal. (b) Artillery: Enemy laid down a barrage on front line positions in the Bois de Charey and the Bois de Dampvitoux between 15:30 and 17:00 hour. Continued harrassing fire throughout the period on the Beney-St. Benoit road. (c) Aeronautics: Sixteen planes reported over sector during period. (d) Movements: Several working parties observed in Dommartin and on the road northeast of St. Julien. Parties in Dommartin apparently engaged in some sort of construction work, as they were pushing wheelbarrows. IV. Maps Illustrating Above. None. V. Own Situation at beginning of day. Unchanged. Patrol which was occupying Haumont was withdrawn; observation post is still maintained in this town. VI. Own Changes, Movements and Actions during day. (a) Infantry: Patrols have been sent out from all front line battalions; one patrol to the Bois de Dommartin took ten prisoners, killed three, and reported seeing fifteen or twenty run away. Other patrols were stopped by enemy machine gun fie. (b) Artillery: Harrassing fire on enemy positions and concentration of gas and H.E. was thrown into the Bois de Dommartin upon the reported concentration of enemy troops at this point. (c) Aeronautics: One Allied plane dropping propaganda, was forced to land in our area, due to a bullet hold through the tank. Flights normal. (d) Movements: Nothing to report. (e) Work done by Command: Reconnaissance of new portion of sector still being carried out. Work on cover and protection for troops and the strengthening of positions still continues. VII. Information received of neighboring units. None. VIII. Orders Received. None IX. Orders Issued None
