The organization of the 11th Engineers was begun in February 1917, under order from the C. of E., to raise the 1st Reserve Engineers. Active recruiting was begun in April. Regiment sailed July 14th, 1917, arriving in England July 26th and in France August 7th. From that date to January 29th, 1918, it was engaged under the 3rd Army, B.E.F., taking part in the British attack, on Cambrai November 20th and the German counter-attack at Gouzeaucourt, November 30th. During February and March, 1918, it was stationed at Montierchaume, Nevers and Verneuil, and was then ordered again to the British front to be attached to the 1st Army B.E.F., during part of the Somme-Lys defensive. During July and August it was occupied in building ammunition dumps at Chenevi
