Description
County service banner for Worth County Missouri. Worth County had 323 men serve and 9 die in the service. In the 1920s, the Missouri Legislature wanted to honor the state’s veterans of the Great War. They appropriated money to match that raised by individual counties to create Service Banners representing the servicemen and women from each county. In 1924, sixty-eight counties presented banners to the state. Over the next two decades, several more were presented. Today the banners in the Missouri State Museum’s collection represent ninety-eight counties plus the City of St. Louis.
