[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] Ft. Sheridan, [Illinois] [October] 21, 1917 Dear Sister: Your nice long letter came a few days ago. It was very welcome after so long a silence. You are quite a married woman having had over a year & a half of experience. You can make me anything you think of from heavy knitted socks to candy. Elizabeth sent me a fine sweater that she knit. It is a good warm one. A lot of candy would be nice. Merely a gentle hint. We are busy all the time. I went to Chicago yesterday and saw a good musical comedy

[Y.M.C.A. letterhead] Chicago is a great place. We were in the trenches last week. Trench life is not desirable. We lost too much sleep. There are only five more weeks in this camp. It finishes [November] 27. That will give time to get home for Thanksgiving dinner. It would be nice if we could have a small family re-union. Just our own family. So as not to cause too much work for Mother. This is just a note to let you know you can write again soon. The Reville I am sending
