Camp Doniphan Ft Sill [Oklahoma] [February 18, 1918] My Sweetheart thought I would sit down and write a line or two before I start on the Sunday Star, which strange to say, came today. I just got through reading a book which impressed me greatly.

[page 3] now, due to my having taken the Battalion out to the trenches and done some, as he said very good work. He went out of his way to compliment me so hope to receive a fair hearing. My opinion is, that we will move out of here about the first part of March. Equipment is rolling in at a fast rate and everything points that way. The Army and Navy Journal says that the quarters, head & light bill for Officers on field duty

[page 4] has passed Congress and will go to the Senate with the Presidents approval. They all say here that it will add to a Captains pay, 48.00 for quarter, and with light and heat make about $5-6.00 altogether. Let us hope. Would sure like to see you.
